Venini – Early Murano Vase
Venini & C. was founded in Murano in 1921 by Paolo Venini, a Milanese lawyer who abandoned the law to revive a fading craft — and in doing so became one of the twentieth century's most consequential names in glass. This Murano glass vase is built on filigrana, a technique documented as far back as the sixteenth century and central to Venini's identity: fine canes of glass drawn into the body of the piece, creating the delicate vertical striping that runs the full height of its silhouette. The form itself is unmistakably sculptural, its waisted, hourglass profile swelling and narrowing like a figure in motion — a shape that turns a functional vessel into something closer to a small glass sculpture.
