Osvaldo Borsani Wingback Lounge Chairs
Before Osvaldo Borsani became known for the technical, mechanism-driven furniture of Tecno — the company he founded with his twin brother in 1953 — he spent his early career designing in a softer, more lyrical register, much like his contemporary Gio Ponti. These Italian mid-century wingback chairs belong to that earlier period: handmade hardwood frames wrapped in deep-red jacquard Italian velvet, with the exaggerated wing silhouette giving the piece real presence in a room. It's a side of Borsani's work that gets less attentionthan his later industrial innovations, but it shows the same instinct for form that would eventually make Tecno one of Italy's most significant design houses.
Hardwood frame, original deep-red jacquard Italian velvet · Dimensions: 72cm x 102cm x 88cm · Italy, 1950s · Osvaldo Borsani
